a telling table from the 2011 kids count data book. the kids count report provides national and state trends in child well-being. the metrics include poverty, education, mortality rate, and parental income. as one would expect, unfortunately, minority children (primarily hispanic, african american, and native american children) fare more poorly than white and asian/pacific islander children. we so often look for blame, not for responsibility. i’m becoming more and more convinced that i should dedicate my life to changing the trend for the young people growing up around me. these numbers and the education numbers i see daily at work weigh on more and more heavily each day.
